About

Hola, I’m Alan.

I'm a Chilean biotech and industrial engineer passionate about building innovative solutions at the intersection of technology and human experience.

Alan Popper

Born and raised in Chile, I've always been fascinated by how technology can solve real-world problems. My journey began with biotechnology and industrial engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where I discovered my passion for building digital solutions.

From developing AI solutions at IBM to leading Rutero's engineering as CTO and shipping geospatial research software with Universidad Católica, I've been on a mission to create products that make people's lives better. When I'm not coding, you'll find me exploring new countries, hitting the gym, or behind a drum kit.

Today I lead Business, Technology & Growth at EuroCapital, where I founded the area — building software platforms and decision-making engines, leading engineers, and finding every opportunity for automation and AI across the company. On the side, through Dopper, I help early-stage founders navigate the technical challenges of building their dreams into reality.

01Timeline

The record so far

Where I studied, where I’ve worked, and what I owned while I was there.

Jul 2025 — Present

Role

Head of Tech, Business & Growth

EuroCapital

Founded and lead the Business, Technology & Growth area, reporting directly to senior management. Design and build internal and external software platforms — including proprietary decision-making engines — on cloud-based, microservices-oriented architectures. Recruited and technically lead software engineers while staying hands-on full-stack, launched a new Public Market business unit integrated with Chile's public procurement platform, and drive automation, AI, and machine learning adoption across the organization.

Mar 2023 — Jul 2025

Role

IT Project Engineer

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Led teams of software engineers building web applications for geospatial visualization of earthquake and tsunami simulations on the Chilean coast, in close collaboration with researchers from the Cigiden research center. Took three products from scratch to delivery — including a probabilistic monetary-loss viewer for earthquake insurance portfolios — owning architecture, database models, user flows, scope, and core full-stack features.

Mar 2022 — Mar 2023

Role

CTO & Co-founder

Rutero

Managed a team of 3 developers building the travel startup's web platform from scratch with agile — Ruby on Rails, Nuxt.js, and Docker. Automated deployments and database backups, designed the data models, integrated a custom commission-based MercadoPago payment system, and optimized page speed and SEO.

Jan — Jul 2020

Role

Intern, Future Club

IBM

MVP developer using IBM Cloud and Watson services — AI & machine learning, data science, virtual assistants, and call-bots. Built a Premier League match-outcome predictor, a forex value predictor, multicloud VM deployment automation, and an NLP web service.

2015 — 2021

Study

Industrial Engineering (IT Major) — Master's-equivalent degree

Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile

Master's-equivalent degree in Industrial Engineering with an IT major, plus a Bachelor's degree in Biological Engineering (major & minor) — the biotech-meets-software foundation behind how I approach problems.

2014

Study

International Baccalaureate Graduate

Craighouse School

IB HL English Diploma. School Prefect, School Spirit Award, outstanding academic distinction, and national university test (PSU) recognition in Science and Mathematics.

03Off the clock

The rest of it

What I spend the other half of my energy on.

01

Strength Training

Daily gym sessions keep me disciplined and energized. Physical health is the foundation everything else is built on.

02

World Travel

16 countries across the Americas, Europe, and Asia — and counting. Each journey brings new perspectives, cultures, and unforgettable experiences.

03

Health Optimization

Nutrition, sleep, and recovery — treating my own wellbeing like an engineering problem worth solving.

04

Personal Development

Books, podcasts, and deep dives into psychology and self-improvement. Always a student.

05

Entrepreneurship

Building products, mentoring founders, and exploring business models. The craft of turning ideas into reality.

06

Music & Drums

Studied drums and percussion at Escuela Moderna de Música. From rock festivals like Welcome to Rockville to playing along at home — music is my favorite way to recharge.
